3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
Refrigerate for 1 hour. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll into balls and roll in sugar. Bake 5 minutes, lift corner of pan and drop so cookies fall. Bake 2 more minutes.
Note: I think I baked them longer than 7 minutes, so I'm sure it depends on your oven
