Knit Night tonight!

Our last Knit Nights in July is tonight.  I'll be on a plane somewhere between Idaho and MN while everyone is partaking of the treats so someone please take an extra bite for me!

Here is what I am working on during the plane ride so I can feel like I am knitting with you... it is the Gwnedd Hat from the new KnitScene magazine we just received in at the shop.  This may be one of those patterns I wind up making in several colors since it knits up so nicely and is fun to make.  I'm sure I have a niece or two who would take them off my hands.

Cheers!

UPDATE:  My connecting flight from Salt Lake to Minneapolis was canceled so I wound up flying to Atlanta and then home.... would you believe I logged 2,995 frequent flier miles instead of the 1,142 miles that a direct flight would have given me?!?   Thank goodness I had plenty of yarn packed, not to mention those pointy tips to keep my seat mates under control!  ;-)

Knit Night - feasts for the senses

As usual there was a feast for the taste buds at our Thursday Knit night... but Sarah (the Tam Ma'am) also made sure our eyes had a feast!

Lori's Knitting Night Recipes

We got together again last night and have decided to post some of the recipes. See you next week.

Rhubarb custard cake

Mix 1 package of yellow cake mix as directed by the package. Grease a 13 x 9 with cooking spray. Pour cake mix into the pan. Add 4 cups of chopped rhubarb. Sprinke 1 cup of sugar on top of the rhubarb and pour 1 pint of whipping cream over the top. Bake at 350 F until firm and browned on top.

Sticky Chicken Wings

This was from Martha Stewarts Everyday Foods but I doubled the sauce.

2 lbs of chicken wings ( cut in half at joint and wing tips removed)
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup fish sauce
1/2 cup lemon juice
4 Tablespoons soy sauce
2 inch piece of ginger, smashed and peeled
2 jalapeno peppers, seeds removed and sliced the long way

Preheat oven to 300. In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, fish sauce, lemon juice, and soy sauce until sugar dissolves. Add ginger and peppers, mix.

Place chicken wings in a 13 x 9 baking dish. I use a tin foil dish, because I basically ruined a dish the first time. Arrange chicken in a single layer. Pour the juice mixture over the top and toss to cover.

Bake for 1 hour, then increase temp to 450 and bake another 30-45 minutes. Turn the wings occasionally. Bake to your liking. I like mine dark brown and gooey.

Knitting and the Universe

This video was posted on the Mason Dixon blog and I couldn't resist sharing it with you!

Emily Ocker's Circular Cast On

I was just sent this link to a great tutorial for a circular cast on with step-by-step pictures.  This cast on is great for projects where you would usually wind up with a little hole in the center of your project (like a stocking cap knit from the top down).  This cast on technique will allow you to pull on the tail end and close up the hole after you have knit for a while.

Many thanks to the Spelling Tuesday website for sharing it!

Knit night fun

Thanks to all who joined us for our first July Knit night - it was great to sit and knit with you.  As usual the conversation and food were top notch!

I love seeing the projects you are working on and the finished objects you shared.  You are directly responsible for all of the items I added to my Ravelry queue last night!

See you next week?

No Corkscrew?

Do you ever have a bottle of wine and no opener?

A friend sent me a video on facebook yesterday and I thought we may need to save the information here... just in case our cabins at the retreat in November don't come with a corkscrew!  ;-)

Follow this link to a wiki page with the full details and complete video.

Cheers!
